History of
Industrialisation in Construction
Short description
Konrad Wachsmann is well
known as one of the most influential representatives of industrial
construction. Being aware of a wide range of historic knowledge, he
showed that research regarding process-orientated construction and
production played a big role concerning the socially defining
developments. Konrad Wachsmann showed the potential of applying
industrial methods to construction projects by designing building
components for mechanized and automated production and its on-site
joining. The newly available industrial possibilities have also had a
great influence on the design. In the context of the Master Course
Advanced Construction and Building Technology the historic
classification of constructional conditions provides an important
reference framework for the transfer of contemporary processthinking
onto future advanced constructive tasks.
„As a generally related ordinaltheory of production, mating and
connecting has to be provided, [...] the creative act can be unfolded
only with that to a great impact.“
(Konrad Wachsmann)
Content
- Systematic description of historic prototypes of planning,
which are suitable for production and realization in the respective
historic eras
- Extraordinary examples from Antiquity to Renaissance, particularly the gothic shed organization
- The early stages of industrial fabrication and construction
- Constructive civil engineering, popular as well as characterized by extreme requirements
- Incorporation of industrial stamped technologies in daily routine of construction
- Innovation jump through reinforced concrete construction.
New constructive possibilities permit a previously not realizable
design and further proceeding industrialization of construction
